- Functions still work from the steering wheel controls but not from the panel
- Panel backlighting is on but nothing on the screen changes
- Display comes and goes with temperature or over rough roads
- Code returns as soon as it is cleared
Likely causes
- Connector behind the dash loose or not fully latched after trim or audio work
- Communication wire between the head unit and the display panel open, shorted or corroded
- Blown fuse, or missing power or ground at the display and switch module
- Liquid spilled into the console switches reaching the module
- Display and switch module failed internally
- Head unit itself faulty or not configured for the fitted display
- Aftermarket head unit or adapter harness that does not support the factory display protocol
- Low or unstable supply voltage disturbing the data link
How to fix it
- Confirm the manufacturer definition and identify the display and switch module on this vehicle
- Check the fuse and measure supply and ground at the module connector
- Reseat the connectors behind the dash and inspect them for bent pins and corrosion
- Measure the communication line for continuity and for shorts to ground and battery
- Read any codes stored in the head unit, they often name the missing partner module
- Disconnect any aftermarket head unit, adapter or accessory and retest
- Check for spilled liquid in the console and dry or replace affected parts
- Repair the wiring or replace the failed module, configure it if required, then verify every switch and display function
