Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Check the switch position and the lamps themselves before pulling the headliner apart.

What does it mean?

B2209 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: AcuraLink Control Unit Internal Error .

Symptoms

  • Interior lamps do not come on when a door is opened
  • Dome lamp stays on all the time, or cannot be switched off
  • The override switch has no effect in either position
  • Courtesy lamp and delayed lighting features stop working
  • Interior lighting fades or flickers instead of switching cleanly
  • Battery drain if the lamps stay powered

Likely causes

  • Override switch left in the off position, which some systems log as an open input
  • Switch contacts worn open or contaminated inside the overhead console
  • Open circuit in the wire between the switch and the module
  • Connector at the overhead console loose, unplugged after headliner work, or corroded
  • Failed lamp or LED module in the same circuit making the input read as open
  • Water tracking down from a sunroof drain or a roof antenna seal into the console
  • Poor module ground affecting how the input is read
  • Body module input circuit failure, once the switch and wiring are proven

How to fix it

  1. Confirm the manufacturer definition and the override switch location on this vehicle
  2. Move the switch through all its positions and watch the input state in live data
  3. Check the interior lamps and their bulbs or LED modules, a failed lamp can make the circuit look open
  4. Unplug the switch and jumper the input circuit to see whether the module responds, that proves the wiring and the module
  5. Measure continuity from the switch connector to the module with both connectors off
  6. Inspect the overhead console connector for corrosion and water from a sunroof drain or roof seal
  7. Repair the wiring or replace the switch, then check module ground quality if the fault remains
  8. Clear the code and verify all interior lighting, door triggered lamps and the delayed off function work correctly
