Mirror Passenger Horizontal Feedback Potentiometer Circuit Open

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Read the door and body module codes and check whether the vertical axis on the same mirror reports faults too.

What does it mean?

B2313 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Wiper ON/OFF Control Circuit Low .

Symptoms

  • The passenger mirror does not respond to memory recall, though it may still adjust manually.
  • The mirror moves to the wrong place or stops before reaching the stored position.
  • Automatic tilt down in reverse gear does not work on that mirror.
  • New memory positions for the passenger mirror are rejected.
  • The fault often shows after door trim removal, mirror replacement or water getting into the mirror.

Likely causes

  • Broken conductor in the passenger door harness inside the rubber boot between the door and the body, where the wires flex every time the door is opened.
  • Mirror connector not fully latched or its terminals pushed back after door trim, glass or speaker work.
  • Corroded terminals in the mirror or door module connector following water entry into the mirror housing.
  • Worn resistive track inside the potentiometer creating a dead spot the module reads as an open circuit.
  • Missing five volt reference or sensor ground from the door module.
  • Broken internal wiring inside the mirror actuator after the mirror glass was forced by hand or in a car wash.
  • Door module internal fault on that input.

How to fix it

  1. Read the door and body module codes and check whether the vertical axis on the same mirror reports faults too.
  2. Monitor the passenger mirror horizontal position value while running the mirror slowly with the switch through its full travel.
  3. A value that disappears or freezes at one point identifies either a dead spot in the potentiometer or a broken wire.
  4. Measure the reference voltage, signal and ground at the mirror connector; a missing reference points back to the door module or its wiring.
  5. Perform a continuity test on the signal wire from the mirror connector to the module connector and flex the door boot harness while measuring.
  6. Repair broken conductors in the boot with properly sealed joints and replace corroded terminals.
  7. Replace the mirror actuator assembly only after the wiring is proven, then reprogram the memory positions.
