What does it mean?
B2317 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Wiper Hi/Low Control Circuit Low .
Symptoms
- The passenger mirror does not respond to memory recall in the side to side direction.
- The mirror stops part way or ends up in a different place each time.
- Automatic tilt in reverse does not work for that mirror.
- Storing a new memory position for the passenger mirror fails.
- Manual mirror adjustment may still work normally, which often misleads the diagnosis.
Likely causes
- Broken wire in the passenger door harness inside the rubber boot, the usual failure point after years of door opening.
- Mirror connector unlatched, or a terminal pushed back after mirror, glass or door trim work.
- Corroded pins in the mirror connector after water entered the housing.
- Worn or burnt resistive track in the potentiometer leaving a dead spot in the travel.
- Missing five volt reference or sensor ground from the door module.
- Internal break in the mirror actuator wiring after the glass was pushed by hand or by a car wash brush.
- Door module internal fault on that input.
How to fix it
- Read the module codes and note whether the horizontal axis of the same mirror is also reported faulty.
- Watch the vertical position feedback live while running the mirror slowly through its full side to side travel with the switch.
- A signal that vanishes or freezes at one point separates a dead potentiometer track from a broken wire.
- Measure the reference voltage, signal and ground at the mirror connector and compare with the module connector values.
- Test continuity of the feedback wire end to end while flexing the harness inside the door boot, which is where breaks usually hide.
- Repair the broken conductors with sealed joints and replace corroded terminals, then reseal the mirror if water was found.
- Replace the mirror actuator assembly only when the harness and reference are proven good, then reprogram the memory positions.
