First step

Read the column and body module codes and note whether the tilt circuit is also affected.

What does it mean?

B2329 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Rain Sensor Optical Path 1 Performance .

Symptoms

  • The column will not extend or retract during memory recall, although the manual switch may still work.
  • Easy entry and exit column movement is disabled.
  • The column overtravels or stops early because the module cannot see where it is.
  • Column memory positions cannot be stored.
  • Seat and mirror memory recall may be interrupted when they run as one sequence.

Likely causes

  • Broken conductor in the column loom at the point where it flexes with tilt and telescope movement.
  • Connector at the reach motor or the column module unlatched, or a terminal pushed back after column shroud, air bag or switch work.
  • Corroded terminals after a drink was spilled down the column or into the lower dash.
  • Completely worn resistive track so the wiper loses contact and the feedback voltage disappears.
  • Missing five volt reference or open sensor ground between the module and the potentiometer.
  • Internal break inside the reach actuator assembly.
  • Column control module output that supplies the reference has failed.

How to fix it

  1. Read the column and body module codes and note whether the tilt circuit is also affected.
  2. Watch the reach position value in live data while running the column slowly through its whole travel with the switch.
  3. A value that disappears at one point rather than everywhere separates a worn track from a permanently broken wire.
  4. Measure the five volt reference, signal and ground at the potentiometer connector, then repeat at the module connector.
  5. Check continuity of the signal wire end to end while flexing the column loom, since the wiring is stressed at every adjustment.
  6. Repair broken conductors with sealed crimped joints and replace corroded or spread terminals.
  7. Replace the reach potentiometer or actuator assembly only when the wiring and reference are proven, then relearn the column memory positions.
