What does it mean?
P1219 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder ID Signal Stuck Low .
Symptoms
- Long cranking before the engine fires, or an intermittent no-start
- Stalling without warning and restarting only after several attempts
- Rough running and misfire because injection cannot be sequenced
- Loss of power and hesitation once the engine is running
- Check engine lamp on, often with camshaft or crankshaft correlation codes
Likely causes
- Camshaft position sensor failure, so its output never rises
- Signal wire shorted to ground or chafed against the engine
- Corroded, wet or loose sensor connector
- Damaged, contaminated or wrongly positioned reluctor ring on the camshaft or sprocket
- Metal debris on the sensor tip or an incorrect air gap after a repair
- Open supply or reference feed to the sensor, which holds its output at zero even though the sensor itself is sound
- Failed sensor input circuit inside the module
How to fix it
- Look at cam and crank signals live on the scan tool while cranking to see which one is missing
- Inspect the sensor connector for corrosion, oil and terminal damage, then check its supply and ground
- Test the signal wire for continuity to the module and for a short to ground
- Remove the sensor and check the tip for metal debris, damage and correct air gap
- Inspect the reluctor ring and sprocket for broken teeth, contamination or movement on the shaft
- Disconnect the sensor connector and see whether the signal line rises to its rest voltage; if it stays at zero with the connector off, the fault lies in the wiring or the module rather than the sensor
- Fit a new camshaft position sensor once wiring is proven, and only then consider the module input
