What does it mean?
P1282 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: APP Sensor 2 Low Voltage .
Symptoms
- The MIL is on with a reduced power warning
- Poor or absent response to the accelerator pedal
- Limp mode with a fixed low rev limit
- Sudden loss of drive while the engine keeps idling
- Cruise control unavailable
- Live data shows sensor 2 at or near zero while sensor 1 changes normally
Likely causes
- Sensor 2 signal wire shorted to ground or to the ground circuit inside the loom
- Open 5 volt reference for the second sensor track
- Broken signal wire leaving the module input at zero volts
- Wet or corroded pedal connector pulling the signal down
- Internal failure of the second sensor track
- Harness damage where the pedal loom flexes or passes the bulkhead
- Module input fault after all wiring checks pass
How to fix it
- Watch both pedal signals with the ignition on; sensor 2 near zero and unresponsive confirms the low voltage condition
- Unplug the pedal connector and measure the 5 volt reference for the second track
- Check the sensor 2 signal wire for a short to ground with both connectors disconnected
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion and terminals that have been pushed back
- Back-probe the module end of the signal circuit to see whether the low reading follows the harness or the sensor
- Wiggle the loom while watching live data to catch an intermittent short
- Repair the wiring or replace the pedal sensor assembly, then run the learn procedure and confirm the second signal sweeps correctly
