What does it mean?
P1283 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: APP Sensor 2 High Voltage .
Symptoms
- The MIL is on with a reduced power warning lamp
- The engine runs only at idle and does not react to the pedal
- Idle may be higher than normal, and the vehicle drops into limp mode
- Sudden loss of acceleration on the move
- Cruise control disabled
- Live data shows sensor 2 pinned at maximum with the pedal released
Likely causes
- Open circuit in the ground for the second sensor track, letting the signal float up
- Signal wire shorted to the 5 volt reference or to battery voltage
- Corrosion in the pedal connector bridging the signal and reference pins
- Internal sensor fault holding the second output at the top of its range
- Chafed loom letting the signal touch a powered wire
- High resistance ground connection shared by the pedal sensor
- Module input fault, considered only after the harness has been proven
How to fix it
- Check live data with the ignition on and the pedal released; a maximum reading on sensor 2 confirms the high voltage condition
- Unplug the pedal connector and see whether the reading falls, which separates a sensor fault from a wiring fault
- Measure the sensor ground for continuity and voltage drop back to the module
- Test the signal wire for a short to the reference and for a short to battery voltage
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion and terminals touching
- Check the loom for chafe points at the bulkhead and under the trim
- Repair the ground or the short, or replace the pedal assembly, then run the learn procedure and verify the signal returns to its rest value
