What does it mean?
P1292 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Certified Natural Gas Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on
- Hard starting or no start while running on gas
- Hesitation, misfire and power loss under load
- Automatic switch back to petrol operation on bi-fuel vehicles
- Wrong or missing gas level and range readings
Likely causes
- Sensor signal wire shorted to ground or open
- Loss of the 5 V reference feeding the pressure sensor
- Internally failed or shorted gas pressure sensor
- Corroded or wet connector at the sensor, common where it sits near the rail
- Genuinely low supply pressure: empty tank, closed manual tank valve, restricted filter, failed regulator or lock-off valve
- Harness damage where it runs along the tank or the gas rail
How to fix it
- Depressurise the gas system according to the manufacturer's procedure before opening any fitting
- Read the freeze frame, then compare the sensor's live pressure value with an accurate mechanical gauge on the rail
- Confirm the tank valve is open and the tank actually holds pressure
- Check the 5 V reference and ground at the sensor connector with the key on, engine off
- Briefly jumper reference to signal to see whether the reading goes high, which clears the harness and module
- Inspect the connector for corrosion and the harness for chafing along the tank run
- Replace the sensor if it disagrees with a known-good gauge; if pressure really is low, inspect the filter, lock-off valve and regulator
