What does it mean?
P1296 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Injector Circuit High to Low Current Transition Time Bank 2 .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on
- Rough idle and misfire concentrated on one bank
- Fuel smell, sooty deposits and poor economy
- Hesitation under acceleration and reduced power
- Occasional stalling at idle when the fault is severe
Likely causes
- Bank 2 injector with shorted turns or a degraded solenoid
- Insulation damage in the Bank 2 injector harness allowing leakage to ground
- Driver module output for Bank 2 not quenching the coil properly
- Wet, oily or corroded connector on a Bank 2 injector
- High-resistance ground shared by the Bank 2 injectors
- Damaged wiring after previous work on the cylinder head or manifold
How to fix it
- Read the freeze frame and note which cylinders are also reporting misfires
- Inspect the Bank 2 injector connectors and harness, paying attention to moisture and chafe damage
- Measure the resistance of each Bank 2 injector and check winding-to-body isolation
- Verify the injector supply voltage and the ground path with a voltage drop test
- Compare injector current waveforms between banks if a scope is available
- Repair the harness or replace the faulty injector, keeping the driver module as the last suspect
- Clear codes and confirm the fault does not return after several drive cycles
