What does it mean?
P1350 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Control (IC) Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- Engine cuts out while driving and may restart after cooling down
- No-start with cranking but no spark
- Backfiring, surging or sudden misfire under load
- Check engine light on, sometimes with additional ignition or crank signal codes
- Erratic tachometer behaviour while the fault is present
Likely causes
- Failed ignition control module, which often becomes intermittent when hot
- Open, shorted or chafed ignition control wire between the two modules
- Corroded or loose connectors at the ignition module or distributor
- Poor ground at the ignition module mounting surface, especially if the heat sink compound has dried out or the surface is corroded
- Faulty pickup coil or crank sensor feeding the ignition module
- Damaged ignition module heat sink or mounting causing thermal failure
- Failed ignition control driver inside the powertrain control module
How to fix it
- Confirm whether spark is present during cranking before disassembling anything
- Inspect the ignition module connector and the ignition control wire for corrosion, chafing and heat damage
- Check the ignition module ground path and mounting surface, cleaning it and using the correct thermal compound on reassembly
- Measure the ignition control circuit for continuity to the control module and for shorts to ground or voltage
- Test the pickup coil or crank sensor feeding the ignition module against specification
- Reproduce the fault when hot if it is intermittent, using a heat source and monitoring the signal
- Replace the ignition module if it fails the tests, then verify stable spark and timing control before returning the vehicle to service
