What does it mean?
P1358 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 2 Ignition Circuit Open Circuit .
Symptoms
- Cylinder 2 does not contribute, so the engine shakes noticeably at idle
- Check engine light on and flashing under load
- Marked loss of power, poor acceleration and stumbling
- Unburnt fuel smell at the tailpipe and increased consumption
- Longer cranking before the engine starts, then a rough idle
Likely causes
- Coil control wire broken, usually at a flex point or inside a corroded splice
- Coil connector loose, unlatched or with a terminal that has retracted in the housing
- Cylinder 2 coil with an open primary winding
- Corrosion inside the connector after water has entered the coil well
- Damaged feed circuit, so the coil never receives supply voltage
- Harness pulled or stretched during a previous repair, breaking a conductor under the insulation
- Open circuit at the module pin, either a damaged terminal or a failed internal driver
How to fix it
- Verify with live data or a spark check that cylinder 2 is genuinely not firing
- Reseat and inspect the coil connector, looking for a retracted terminal or a broken lock
- Measure the coil primary resistance; an open reading confirms the coil is at fault
- Check for supply voltage at the coil with the key on before testing the control wire
- Test continuity of the control wire from the coil connector to the module, flexing the harness while measuring
- Compare readings with a known-good cylinder on the same engine to be sure of the expected values
- Repair the open circuit or fit a new coil, clear the code and confirm the misfire counter for cylinder 2 stays at zero
