What does it mean?
P1354 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Coil 'C' Primary Circuit .
Symptoms
- Misfire limited to the cylinder or cylinders served by coil 'C'
- Vibration at idle and an audible change in exhaust note
- Check engine light on and flashing while the misfire is active
- Hesitation and power loss under acceleration, sometimes only when hot
- Higher fuel consumption and a fuel smell at the tailpipe
Likely causes
- Coil 'C' with an open, shorted or drifted primary winding
- Damaged coil control wire, often chafed where the harness crosses the valve cover or a bracket
- Corroded coil connector with high contact resistance
- Supply voltage missing at the coil because of a fuse, relay or feed harness problem
- Terminal fretting from vibration, producing an intermittent connection that comes and goes with engine load
- Coil overheating and breaking down after the engine reaches operating temperature
- Control module coil driver failure, considered only once wiring and coil test good
How to fix it
- Locate coil 'C' from the engine wiring information before removing components
- Inspect the connector, boot and spark plug for carbon tracking, oil contamination and moisture
- Measure primary resistance and compare the value across all coils to find the odd one out
- Verify supply voltage at the coil and check the fuse and relay serving the ignition system
- Test the control circuit for continuity to the module and for shorts, wiggling the harness while measuring to catch an intermittent
- If the fault only appears hot, heat the coil area and repeat the tests to reproduce the condition
- Replace coil 'C' if it fails testing, then verify the misfire counters stay at zero after clearing the code
