What does it mean?
P1355 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Cylinder 1 Ignition Circuit Open Circuit .
Symptoms
- Cylinder 1 does not fire, giving a clear dead-cylinder shake at idle
- Check engine light on and flashing during the misfire
- Significant power loss and rough running at all speeds
- Strong smell of unburnt fuel from the exhaust and risk of catalytic converter damage
- Hard starting, particularly cold, with the engine settling into a rough idle
Likely causes
- Broken coil control wire or a corroded splice in the cylinder 1 ignition circuit
- Coil connector unplugged, not fully latched, or a terminal that has backed out of the housing
- Open primary winding inside the cylinder 1 coil
- Corrosion in the connector after water intrusion, eating through the terminal contact
- Harness damage where the coil lead passes a bracket or the valve cover edge
- Missing supply voltage at the coil because of an open feed wire or a failed fuse
- Module output pin damaged or the driver open internally
How to fix it
- Confirm the fault at cylinder 1 by checking spark and by looking at the misfire counters in live data
- Check that the coil connector is fully seated and inspect for a backed-out or corroded terminal
- Measure the primary winding resistance of the cylinder 1 coil; an infinite reading confirms an open coil
- Verify battery voltage at the coil supply pin with the key on
- Test continuity of the control wire from the coil connector back to the module pin
- Wiggle-test the harness at brackets and bends while measuring, since an open circuit is often intermittent before it fails completely
- Repair the open wire or replace the coil, then clear the code and confirm cylinder 1 fires normally
