What does it mean?
P1395 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Ignition Coil Power Output Stage 3 Electrical Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL on, usually with a misfire code for the same cylinder
- Rough idle, vibration and misfire when accelerating
- Noticeable power loss and hesitation
- Fuel smell from the exhaust and higher consumption
- Occasional stalling and hard restarting
Likely causes
- Short to ground or short to battery on the coil 3 primary control wire
- Failed driver stage for that coil inside the ignition module or engine control unit
- Ignition coil 3 with a shorted primary winding drawing excessive current
- Corroded, wet or backed-out terminal in the coil connector
- Harness damage at the valve cover from heat, oil or vibration
- Missing supply voltage or a poor ground on the coil feed
- Excessive secondary voltage demand from a worn plug stressing the output stage
How to fix it
- Inspect the coil 3 connector for oil, water, corrosion and spread terminals
- Measure the coil primary resistance and compare it against the other coils on the engine
- Confirm battery voltage is present on the coil feed with the ignition on
- With the coil unplugged, test the control wire for a short to ground and a short to power
- Swap coil 3 with a neighbouring coil and see whether the code moves with the part
- Check the spark plug on that cylinder for an excessive gap or physical damage
- Replace the coil or repair the wiring; replace the module output stage only once a wiring short has been ruled out, so the new part is not damaged
