What does it mean?
P1419 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Switch-over Valve 2 Short circuit to Voltage .
Symptoms
- MIL on with EGR related codes stored alongside
- Switch over valve stuck in one position, so EGR gas either always bypasses or always passes the cooler
- Higher NOx output and possible emissions test failure
- Slight increase in coolant temperature or exhaust temperature under load
- Valve does not respond to scan tool commands
Likely causes
- Control wire chafed against a positive feed or shorted inside a shared connector
- Water or corrosion in the valve connector bridging the control pin to a supply pin
- Internally shorted solenoid that has welded its winding to the supply side
- Damaged harness insulation from exhaust heat near the EGR cooler
- Incorrect previous repair that placed the control wire on a permanent live circuit
- Failed PCM output driver stuck in the high state after wiring is verified
How to fix it
- Record the freeze frame and note whether the fault appears only at operating temperature
- Disconnect the valve connector and check for battery voltage on the control pin with the key on; voltage present with the PCM unplugged proves a short to power
- Inspect the connector for moisture, corrosion and pin to pin tracking
- Measure the solenoid winding resistance and check for continuity between the winding and the supply terminal
- Follow the harness near the EGR cooler and exhaust for heat damaged or chafed insulation
- Repair or reroute the damaged section and protect it with heat sleeving
- Replace the switch over valve if internally shorted, then command it with a scan tool to confirm normal operation
