What does it mean?
P1450 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Secondary Air Injector Valve Circuit Short to B+ .
Symptoms
- MIL on with the secondary air readiness monitor incomplete
- Air injection valve remains in one state, so air is delivered at the wrong time or not at all
- Elevated hydrocarbon output on cold start
- Slightly rough idle for the first minute
- No response to commanded valve tests with a scan tool
Likely causes
- Control wire chafed against a live feed where the harness crosses the engine
- Water and corrosion inside the valve connector linking the control pin to a supply pin
- Solenoid internally shorted between its winding and its supply terminal
- Harness pinched during previous engine or intake work, contacting a power circuit
- Faulty splice or repair that tied the control line to a permanent live source
- Heat damaged insulation where the wiring runs near the exhaust manifold
- PCM output driver failed high, only after wiring checks are complete
How to fix it
- Disconnect the valve and check the control pin for battery voltage with the key on; voltage present with the PCM unplugged confirms a short to power
- Inspect the connector for water, corrosion and damaged seals, then dry and retest
- Measure continuity between the solenoid control terminal and its supply terminal to reveal an internal short
- Check the harness where it runs alongside power feeds for pinched, melted or chafed insulation
- Verify the fuse and relay in the circuit have not been damaged by the short
- Repair the shorted wire, protect it with heat resistant sleeving and reroute it away from hot parts
- Replace the valve if it is internally shorted, then confirm operation with a cold start monitor run
