What does it mean?
P1455 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP System Fuel Level Sensor Failure and Gross Leak Detected .
Symptoms
- MIL on with the EVAP monitor incomplete
- Strong fuel vapour smell, most noticeable after refuelling and when parked
- No hiss when the filler cap is opened
- Fuel gauge reading inaccurately or moving in steps
- Fuel consumption may rise slightly through vapour loss
Likely causes
- Fuel filler cap missing, left loose or not sealing on its seat
- Vapour hose disconnected or split between the tank, canister and purge valve
- Cracked or damaged charcoal canister body
- Vent valve stuck open or its hose disconnected, so the system can never be sealed
- Leaking fuel pump or sender flange seal on the tank
- Corroded filler neck or a damaged filler pipe
- Fuel level sender with a worn track or a corroded connector, making the level signal implausible
How to fix it
- Check the filler cap first: presence, correct type, seal condition and whether it clicks home
- Look for disconnected or split vapour hoses along the tank and canister, since a gross leak is usually visible
- Compare the fuel level value in live data with the real tank content to judge the sender
- Inspect the sender connector at the tank flange for corrosion and loose terminals
- Introduce smoke into the EVAP system and follow the escaping smoke to the opening
- Inspect the canister, vent valve and filler neck for cracks, corrosion and detached fittings
- Repair the large leak and the level sensor fault, then clear codes and run an EVAP monitor drive cycle
