What does it mean?
P1470 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP Emission Control LDP Circuit Electrical Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL on with an EVAP related code stored
- Engine drivability is normally unaffected
- No pump operation is heard when the leak test should be running
- EVAP readiness monitor never completes, so an emissions test cannot be passed
- Occasional fuel vapour smell if a real leak is present as well
Likely causes
- Open, shorted or corroded connector at the EVAP leak detection pump (LDP)
- Failed pump assembly with an internally open or shorted solenoid coil
- Damaged wiring in the rear underbody harness near the fuel tank or charcoal canister
- Blown fuse or lost power feed to the pump
- Water intrusion and salt corrosion in the underbody connector
- Poor ground for the pump or for the module that drives it
- Module output driver failure
How to fix it
- Read freeze frame data and check whether other EVAP codes are stored alongside
- Inspect the pump connector and the rear harness for corrosion, rodent damage and chafing
- Check for power feed and a clean ground at the pump with the key on
- Measure the solenoid coil resistance and compare it with specification
- Command the pump on with a scan tool and listen for it to cycle
- Repair damaged wiring or terminals, and replace the pump if its coil is out of range
- Clear the code and drive an EVAP monitor cycle to confirm the repair
