What does it mean?
P1472 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP Emission Control Leak Detection Pump Circuit Short to Ground .
Symptoms
- MIL on
- EVAP readiness monitor stays incomplete
- The pump may buzz or run whenever the key is on
- Fuse in the EVAP circuit may blow repeatedly
- The engine normally runs and drives as usual
Likely causes
- Leak detection pump control wire shorted to chassis ground through chafed insulation
- Pump solenoid coil shorted internally
- Harness crushed where it passes over a body seam, tank strap or heat shield
- Corrosion inside the connector shorting a pin to the ground pin or to the shell
- Rodent damage to the rear underbody harness
- Module driver held low by an internal failure
How to fix it
- Unplug the pump and measure the control wire resistance to ground; a low reading with the connector open confirms a wiring short
- Follow the harness visually looking for pinch points, crushed sections and chafed spots
- Measure the solenoid coil resistance; a very low value indicates an internally shorted winding
- Clean or replace corroded connector terminals and reseal the joint
- Repair the shorted section properly and secure the harness away from sharp edges
- Replace the pump assembly if it tests shorted
- Clear the code and rerun the EVAP monitor to verify
