What does it mean?
P1473 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP Emission Control Leak Detection Pump Circuit Open .
Symptoms
- MIL on
- The pump never operates during the leak test
- EVAP monitor stays incomplete and readiness never sets
- No drivability complaint in most cases
- Emissions inspection failure because the monitor cannot run
Likely causes
- Broken wire or a backed-out terminal in the leak detection pump connector
- Pump solenoid coil open internally
- Loss of the power feed from a blown fuse or open relay contact
- Corroded terminals with high resistance behaving like an open circuit
- Connector left unplugged after previous fuel tank or exhaust work
- Open ground path for the pump
- Module driver circuit open internally
How to fix it
- Confirm the pump connector is fully seated and its lock is engaged
- Check for supply voltage at the pump feed with the key on
- Measure solenoid coil resistance; an infinite reading means the coil is open
- Perform a continuity test from the pump connector back to the module pin
- Wiggle test the harness while watching the meter to expose an intermittent open
- Repair broken wires or terminals, or replace the pump if its coil is open
- Clear the code and run an EVAP monitor cycle to verify the fix
