Fan Relay (Low) Circuit Malfunction

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Command the pump with a scan tool and watch the switch signal for state changes

What does it mean?

P1475 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP Emission Control LDP Circuit Malfunction/Signal Circuit Open .

Symptoms

  • MIL on with an EVAP code stored
  • EVAP monitor does not complete
  • No feedback pulses visible on the scan tool while the pump is commanded
  • Engine runs and drives normally
  • Emissions readiness stays not ready

Likely causes

  • Open in the leak detection pump signal or switch wire back to the module
  • Failed diaphragm or reed switch inside the pump, so no feedback pulses are produced
  • Backed-out or corroded terminal in the pump connector
  • Broken conductor in the rear underbody harness
  • Poor ground reference for the switch circuit
  • Module input circuit fault

How to fix it

  1. Command the pump with a scan tool and watch the switch signal for state changes
  2. Check continuity of the signal wire from the pump connector through to the module pin
  3. Inspect the connector for corrosion, moisture and pushed-back pins
  4. Wiggle test the harness during the commanded test to catch an intermittent open
  5. Verify the pump has proper power and ground before condemning it
  6. Replace the leak detection pump if the internal switch never changes state
  7. Clear codes and rerun the EVAP monitor
