What does it mean?
P1753 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: A/T Lockup Solenoid Valve 'A' Circuit Malfunction .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on, sometimes with no obvious driving complaint at first
- Engine RPM stays high at cruising speed because lockup never engages
- Fuel consumption rises noticeably on longer journeys
- Shudder or vibration around lockup speed under light throttle
- Engine stalls at a stop if the converter clutch stays applied
- Transmission runs hot in stop and go traffic
Likely causes
- Open or shorted lockup solenoid valve A winding
- Short to ground or short to battery on the solenoid drive circuit
- Corroded case connector or an ATF soaked internal harness
- Solenoid stuck or its screen clogged with varnish and debris
- Sticking lockup control valve in the valve body
- Low line pressure or degraded fluid preventing controlled apply
- Module driver failure, considered only after the solenoid and wiring pass testing
How to fix it
- Check fluid level, colour and smell, and correct any shortfall first
- Monitor converter slip on live data at steady speed to see whether lockup applies at all
- Command the lockup solenoid with a scan tool and look for the expected RPM drop
- Measure solenoid resistance at the case connector and compare with specification
- Test the drive circuit for opens and shorts with the solenoid disconnected
- Inspect the case connector and internal harness for fluid contamination and rub-through
- Replace the solenoid or clean the valve body, then verify lockup engages and releases smoothly
