What does it mean?
P1755 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EMC Over Current .
Symptoms
- MIL (check engine lamp) on, often with the function it controls disabled
- The affected function drops out and then recovers after an ignition cycle
- Repeated blown fuse on the same circuit
- Limp behaviour with reduced performance while the output is shut down
- Component becomes noticeably hot to the touch after a short period of operation
Likely causes
- Shorted winding inside the driven component, drawing far more current than normal
- Short to ground on the output wire where the harness has rubbed through
- Moisture or salt inside the connector bridging the output pin to ground
- Replacement component with the wrong resistance rating fitted at an earlier repair
- Mechanical binding in the driven assembly forcing a stall current condition
- Two circuits shorted together by crushed or melted insulation
- Failed output driver inside the control module holding the circuit on
How to fix it
- Check the fuse for the circuit and note whether it blows immediately when the output is commanded
- Read freeze frame data to see the load and voltage present when the fault was stored
- Disconnect the component and measure its winding resistance against specification
- Measure resistance from the output terminal to ground to find a short with the module unplugged
- Use a current clamp while commanding the output and compare the reading with the expected draw
- Inspect the harness along its full route for chafe points, crush damage and moisture in connectors
- Replace the shorted component or repair the wiring, and consider the module only when the external circuit is proven good
