SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Primary Id

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Check the transmission fluid level and condition, since overheated or contaminated fluid stresses an internal TCM

  • 0Network / Communication
  • 13Sequence number

What does it mean?

U1013 is a Network (CAN bus, module communications) fault code. It indicates: Invalid Internal Control Module Monitoring Data Received From TCM .

Symptoms

  • Transmission warning lamp or a gearbox message on the cluster
  • Harsh, delayed or flaring gear changes
  • Transmission locked into one gear in fail-safe or limp mode
  • Torque converter lock-up not engaging, raising fuel consumption and RPM on the motorway
  • Vehicle may refuse to shift out of park or select a gear
  • Related communication codes stored in the engine controller at the same time

Likely causes

  • Internal electronic fault in the TCM, including a failing driver or memory section
  • TCM software or adaptation data corrupted, often after a low voltage event during programming
  • Transmission fluid intrusion into the TCM connector on units mounted inside the gearbox
  • Overheated transmission fluid stressing an internally mounted TCM
  • Poor ground or a voltage drop on the TCM supply, particularly during cranking
  • Damaged bus wiring or a chafed harness at the transmission bulkhead pass-through
  • An unresolved transmission fault, such as a solenoid or speed sensor failure, causing the TCM to fail its internal monitors

How to fix it

  1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition, since overheated or contaminated fluid stresses an internal TCM
  2. Read codes from the transmission controller and the engine controller and note which faults are current
  3. Test battery and charging voltage, then perform a voltage drop test on the TCM power and ground circuits
  4. Inspect the TCM connector, especially the bulkhead pass-through, for fluid wicking up the wires and for corroded pins
  5. Repair any stored solenoid, pressure or speed sensor faults first; the internal monitor failure is often a consequence
  6. Inspect the bus wiring between the TCM and the gateway for damage and previous repairs
  7. Verify the TCM software and adaptation status, then reprogram and relearn adaptations if required
  8. Replace the TCM only after fluid, wiring, grounds, voltage and software have all been checked
