What does it mean?

B1276 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Combination Light Switch Parking (SMALL) Position Circuit Malfunction .

Symptoms

  • Parking and tail lights do not come on in the first switch position, or stay on in every position
  • Instrument panel illumination behaves incorrectly
  • Licence plate and side marker lamps do not follow the switch
  • The automatic light function may hold the parking lights on
  • Possible battery drain if the lamps stay energised with the vehicle parked

Likely causes

  • Worn parking light position contacts inside the combination light switch
  • Open or shorted wire between the switch parking position terminal and the body control module
  • Corroded terminals at the steering column switch connector
  • Moisture or spilled liquid reaching the switch assembly
  • Harness damage under the steering column from previous repairs
  • Failed input circuit inside the body control module

How to fix it

  1. Verify which lamps actually light in each switch position before assuming a bulb problem
  2. Check the parking light switch position status in live data while turning the switch
  3. Disconnect the combination switch and test its parking position contacts for continuity
  4. Inspect the connector for corrosion or a backed-out terminal and reseat as needed
  5. Check the wire between the switch and the body control module for opens and for shorts to ground or voltage
  6. Replace the combination light switch if the contact is worn, then confirm all lighting positions work correctly
