What does it mean?
B1429 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side impact sensor (RH) (squib) for communication system .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on with the side restraint system disabled on the right
- Right side and curtain airbags will not deploy in a collision
- Fault can be intermittent, showing up on rough roads or after wet weather
- Code often appears shortly after interior trim or seat work
- The vehicle drives and behaves entirely normally otherwise
Likely causes
- Open circuit, short or high resistance in one of the two communication wires between the module and the sensor
- Corroded connector at the B pillar or sill after water has run down inside the trim
- Connector left unlatched or damaged during seat, sill or pillar trim removal
- Sensor internally faulty and no longer answering the module's requests
- Sensor mounting bolts loose, giving an unreliable ground and reference for the unit
- Replacement sensor of the wrong specification that cannot communicate correctly
- Fault in the restraint module port that polls the satellite sensors
How to fix it
- Turn off the ignition, disconnect the battery and wait the specified reserve energy discharge period
- Remove the sill or B pillar trim and check for damp carpet and water staining, repairing the leak first
- Unplug the sensor and inspect both connector halves for corrosion, spread terminals and an unengaged lock
- Measure continuity and resistance of both communication wires back to the restraint module while flexing the loom
- Check that the sensor is bolted tightly to clean bare metal at the correct torque
- Where the part numbers match, exchange the sensor with the one on the other side to see whether the fault follows it
- Fit a correct new sensor, perform any needed configuration, clear the memory and confirm on a road test that the lamp stays out
