First step

An ordinary multimeter must never be connected to a squib circuit, its test current can fire the airbag.

What does it mean?

B1430 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side-airbag module (LH) (squib) system fault 1 (short circuit between terminals of the squib circuit) .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp lit from the ignition cycle after the fault occurred
  • Left side airbag disabled and will not deploy in a side impact
  • Fault typically shows up right after seat work, upholstery repair or interior cleaning
  • Code returns as current every time it is erased
  • No change in the way the vehicle starts, drives or brakes

Likely causes

  • Harness under the driver seat crushed by the seat rails or by items pushed underneath
  • Under seat yellow connector only half latched, leaving its internal shorting bar bridging both pins
  • Insulation cut during seat removal, refitting or seat cover installation
  • Water or spilled liquid soaking the seat base and reaching the connector
  • Internal short inside the side airbag module in the seat backrest
  • Non specified airbag module or a seat from a different model fitted
  • Restraint control module measuring circuit at fault

How to fix it

  1. Switch off, disconnect the battery and wait the specified reserve discharge time before working under the seat
  2. Find the yellow under seat connector, check that it is fully latched, dry and undamaged, then reseat it firmly
  3. Inspect the harness where the seat rails travel and look for anything stored under the seat that has crushed it
  4. Clear the code after reseating the connector and see whether it returns, since half mated connectors cause many of these faults
  5. Fit the manufacturer approved load tool or simulator in place of the airbag module and retest to separate harness from module
  6. Repair or renew the damaged harness section and secure it clear of the seat mechanism
  7. Replace the side airbag module with the correct part number if the simulator shows the wiring is good, then clear the codes and confirm the lamp goes out
