What does it mean?
B1437 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Voice Recognition/Phone Switch Input Circuit High .
Symptoms
- Voice recognition and telephone buttons do nothing when pressed
- Other keys on the same input line are also dead, since they share the circuit
- Horn or driver airbag faults may appear at the same time when the clockspring is the cause
- Airbag warning lamp on alongside the switch fault if the clockspring ribbon is damaged
- Buttons work only in certain steering positions or after the wheel is moved
Likely causes
- Open circuit in the switch pad so no button ever pulls the input down
- Broken track in the clockspring carrying that signal into the steering wheel
- Connector behind the wheel or at the base of the column unplugged, loose or corroded
- Signal wire chafed in the column loom and touching a supply circuit
- Worn button contacts that no longer close reliably
- Aftermarket steering wheel or interface adapter using resistance values outside the expected range
- Failed switch input inside the radio or steering column control module
How to fix it
- Read the stored code and watch the input value on live data while pressing each button; nothing changing at all points to an open circuit
- Check whether the horn and other steering wheel functions are also affected, which quickly separates the clockspring from the switch pad
- Disconnect the battery and observe the airbag reserve discharge time before removing the wheel or the switch pack
- Unplug the switch pad and measure the resistance of each button; an open reading condemns the pad
- Reseat and inspect the connectors behind the wheel and at the column base for corrosion, spread and backed-out terminals
- Test the signal wire through the clockspring for continuity and for an unwanted feed from a live circuit
- Fit the proven faulty part, centre the clockspring correctly with the wheels straight, then clear the code and verify all steering wheel functions
