What does it mean?
B1432 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side Airbag Rear-Driver Resistance Circuit Short to Battery .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on permanently with rear left side protection disabled
- Fault typically appears after audio, alarm or seat accessory installation in the rear of the cabin
- Code is current at every start and comes straight back after clearing
- Other rear seat related codes may set at the same time
- Driving, braking and engine performance are unaffected
Likely causes
- Yellow squib harness chafed against a powered circuit that runs beside it under the rear seat
- Aftermarket wiring such as an amplifier feed, alarm sensor or seat heater spliced into the rear seat loom
- Water or corrosion inside the connector bridging a squib pin to a live pin
- Insulation crushed where the loom passes between the seat frame and a powered accessory bracket
- Internal fault in the rear left side airbag unit linking the initiator to a supply
- Poor previous repair where several circuits were taped or soldered together
- Restraint control module output stage pushing voltage into the circuit
How to fix it
- Switch off, disconnect the battery and wait the manufacturer specified reserve energy discharge time
- Unplug the rear left side airbag unit and inspect its connector for moisture, corrosion and pins pushed across to a live terminal
- Trace the rear seat loom and separate the squib pair from any power carrying wires wrapped in with it
- Remove or reroute any aftermarket wiring spliced into this area before continuing
- With the airbag unplugged, check whether supply voltage is present on the squib wires with the ignition on
- Repair the damaged insulation or renew the harness section, keeping the initiator pair separated and protected
- Fit a new airbag unit only if the harness proves clean, then clear the codes and verify the warning lamp goes out
