What does it mean?
B1441 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Curtain air bag module (RH) (squib) system fault 2 (open in the squib circuit) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on constantly and the right curtain airbag disabled
- Curtain will not deploy in a side impact or rollover
- Fault sets immediately after windscreen replacement, headliner removal or pillar trim work
- Code stays current every time it is cleared
- Vehicle drives entirely normally, only the lamp indicates a problem
Likely causes
- Connector at the A pillar base left unplugged or only pushed on after trim, glass or headliner work
- Terminal backed out of the connector so the pin no longer makes contact
- Broken conductor in the roof rail loom, often where it was bent sharply during headliner refitting
- Corroded terminals from water running down the pillar, creating a high resistance joint
- Open initiator inside the curtain airbag module
- Poorly crimped repair splice or an extension added to the yellow harness
- Restraint control module measuring channel failure
How to fix it
- Turn off the ignition, disconnect the battery and wait the specified reserve discharge time before working near the pillars
- Remove the A pillar trim, find the yellow curtain airbag connector and confirm it is plugged in and fully locked
- Unplug it and inspect for backed-out pins, corrosion and spread terminals, then refit until it clicks
- Clear the code and retest, as an unplugged or half seated connector after glass or headliner work explains most of these faults
- If the fault remains, fit the approved load tool in place of the curtain module to establish whether the open is in the harness or the airbag
- Repair or renew the damaged roof rail harness section and route it exactly as originally clipped
- Replace the curtain airbag module if the load tool proves the wiring is sound, then clear the memory and verify the lamp goes out
