What does it mean?
B1447 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger Occupant Classification ECU defect .
Symptoms
- Airbag/SRS warning lamp stays on
- Passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator reads wrong: OFF with an adult seated, or ON with the seat empty
- Passenger airbag is inhibited and would not deploy in a crash
- Passenger seat belt reminder chime triggers erratically or not at all
- Code returns as soon as it is cleared
- Every other comfort function of the seat still works, so the warning lamp is the only clue
Likely causes
- Internal failure of the classification module built into the passenger seat cushion
- Corroded, spread or partially unlatched connector under the passenger seat
- Harness stretched, pinched or chafed by the fore/aft travel of the seat
- Sensor mat or pressure bladder in the cushion damaged by a spill, heavy cargo or a tight aftermarket seat cover
- Zero/calibration routine never carried out after the seat, cushion or module was replaced
- Low system voltage or a high-resistance ground at the module
- Airbag control unit (ACU) fault or a corrupted data link between the two modules
How to fix it
- Scan the SRS and body modules, note whether the code is current or historic and record the freeze frame data
- With the seat empty and nothing leaning against it, watch the occupant classification live data, then place a known weight on the cushion and confirm the status changes
- Switch the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait the prescribed time before touching any SRS connector
- Release, inspect and reseat the connector under the seat; look for green corrosion, spread terminals and a locking clip that never fully latched
- Slide the seat through its full travel while checking the harness for stretch, chafe or a pinch point against the rail
- Measure supply voltage at the module and the voltage drop on its ground while the fault is present
- Run the occupant classification zero/calibration procedure with the seat completely unloaded
- Replace the classification sensor or module only once wiring and calibration are proven good, then clear the codes and verify with a full seat-load test
