What does it mean?
B1448 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger Occupant Detecting System (PODS) Circuit Fault .
Symptoms
- Airbag/SRS warning lamp illuminated permanently
- Passenger airbag status indicator stuck in one state or flickering
- Passenger airbag switched off by the system as a protective measure
- Fault is often intermittent and appears after the seat is moved or after someone sits down heavily
- Code cannot be cleared while the circuit fault is present
Likely causes
- Open or short in the seat harness between the detecting system and the airbag control unit
- Water or a drink spilled into the connector under the seat, bridging or corroding the pins
- Punctured or leaking pressure bladder, or a damaged sensor mat inside the cushion
- Aftermarket seat heater, seat cover or child seat base clamping and cutting the sensor loop
- Terminal pushed out of the connector body during seat removal or interior work
- Supply or reference voltage from the airbag control unit out of range
- Failed detecting system electronics
How to fix it
- Read the SRS codes, check whether the fault is stored as current and note the conditions in the freeze frame
- Power down properly: ignition off, battery disconnected, prescribed waiting time observed
- Disconnect the seat connector and inspect both halves under good light for moisture, corrosion, bent pins and backed-out terminals
- Perform a wiggle test on the under-seat harness with a scanner or a recording meter connected, moving the seat through its travel
- Measure the resistance of the sensor circuit against specification, and check each line for a short to ground or to a power feed
- Check the underside of the cushion for a cut, crushed or leaking sensor element, and remove any tight cover or accessory pressing on it
- Repair the harness or replace the sensor assembly, then run the calibration routine and confirm the classification changes correctly under load
