Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Find where the sensor line is picking up voltage.

What does it mean?

B1452 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: SIS (Side Impact Sensor) Rear-Driver Circuit Short to Battery .

Symptoms

  • Airbag/SRS warning lamp permanently on
  • Driver-side side and curtain airbag protection is switched off by the control unit
  • Other body electrics sharing the damaged loom section may misbehave at the same time
  • Fault typically appears after accessory fitting, accident repair or rear-end bodywork
  • Code sets again as soon as the ignition is switched on

Likely causes

  • Sensor wire chafed against a powered circuit routed in the same loom, such as a lamp, window or lock feed
  • Incorrect repair: the sensor line spliced or tapped into a switched or permanent power wire
  • Corrosion or water in a multi-pin connector bridging the sensor pin to a live pin
  • Aftermarket accessory wiring pushed into the SRS loom in the rear quarter or under the seat
  • Wrong or non-matching sensor fitted after a repair
  • Damaged airbag control unit input stage holding the line high

How to fix it

  1. Read all SRS codes and note any other codes from the same loom branch
  2. De-energise the system: ignition off, battery disconnected, prescribed wait time observed
  3. Unplug the sensor, then reconnect the battery and carefully measure for voltage on the sensor circuit pins in the harness; any battery voltage there proves a short to power
  4. Switch the ignition on and off and check whether the voltage is permanent or switched, which tells you which circuit is feeding it
  5. Open the sill and rear quarter trim and inspect for melted insulation, chafe against a powered wire and any added or spliced wiring
  6. Remove non-factory taps and repair the damaged section with proper insulation and routing
  7. If the harness reads clean, back-probe at the airbag control unit and, only then, consider the module
  8. Clear the codes, cycle the ignition several times and confirm the warning lamp stays out
