Wiper Washer Pump Motor Relay Circuit Failure

Jump to the fix

Severity

Medium

Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Test the shared feed rather than each device separately.

  • BBody
  • 1Manufacturer-specific
  • 4Body
  • 58Sequence number

What does it mean?

B1458 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Side Impact Sensor (Rear: LH) (Squib) for Power Supply Circuit .

Symptoms

  • Airbag/SRS warning lamp on and staying on
  • Rear left side impact sensing and the airbag it arms are both taken out of service
  • Several SRS codes from the same side often appear together, which is the clue that a shared feed is involved
  • Fault can be intermittent, appearing with vibration, door slams or a loaded boot
  • Code sets again shortly after being erased

Likely causes

  • Short to ground on the supply branch, dragging the feed down for every device on it
  • Open or corroded connection at the branch splice or at an intermediate connector under the rear seat or sill
  • Water in the connector after a door seal, drain or boot leak, raising resistance and leaking current
  • Sensor or deployment loop drawing abnormal current because of an internal fault
  • Loom crushed by a seat rail, trim fastener or luggage anchor on the rear left side
  • Airbag control unit supply driver damaged, often alongside other sensor supply codes
  • Repair splice from earlier accident work that has corroded or loosened

How to fix it

  1. Retrieve all SRS codes; when several codes point at the same side, suspect the common supply first
  2. Power the system down: ignition off, battery disconnected, prescribed waiting time observed
  3. Disconnect the rear left sensor and inspect its connector and the loom seal for water, corrosion and heat damage
  4. Measure the resistance of the supply branch to ground with everything unplugged; a low reading proves a short on the branch
  5. Measure end-to-end resistance of the same wire to check for an open, then wiggle the loom under the sill and seat to expose an intermittent break
  6. Unplug one device at a time on the branch to see which one restores a normal reading
  7. Repair the loom or splice properly, protect it from the crush point that caused the damage, and dry or renew the connector seals
  8. Replace the sensor or module only after the feed measures correct, then clear the codes and confirm with several ignition cycles
