What does it mean?

B1454 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: SIS (Side Impact Sensor) Rear-Passenger Circuit Short to Ground .

Symptoms

  • Airbag/SRS warning lamp stays illuminated
  • Passenger-side side and curtain airbag protection is disabled
  • Pretensioner on the same side may be switched off as well
  • Fault often becomes permanent in wet weather or after the boot has been loaded and unloaded
  • Clearing the code has no lasting effect while the short is present

Likely causes

  • Harness rubbing through against a sill edge, body seam or seat mounting in the rear of the cabin
  • Moisture reaching the connector from a leaking door seal, a sunroof drain or wet carpet on the passenger side
  • Wiring cut or crushed during rear seat removal, boot lining work or an audio installation
  • Corroded sensor connector allowing the signal to leak to the mounting bracket
  • Internal failure of the rear passenger-side impact sensor
  • Short to ground inside the airbag control unit connector or its input circuit

How to fix it

  1. Read the SRS codes and check whether both rear sensors or only this one are reporting
  2. Power down properly: ignition off, battery disconnected, prescribed waiting time observed
  3. Unplug the rear passenger-side impact sensor and measure resistance from each signal wire to chassis ground; a low value with the sensor unplugged points to the harness
  4. Lift the sill and rear trim and inspect the loom for chafe, cuts, staples and crushed sections, paying attention to any recent interior work
  5. Check the connector, its seal and the carpet beneath it for water, and correct the leak that caused it
  6. Repeat the ground measurement at the airbag control unit connector to decide between harness and module
  7. Repair the harness using an approved method for SRS wiring, then refit and retest before considering a new sensor
  8. Clear the codes and confirm the lamp performs its bulb check and goes out
