What does it mean?
B1531 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat belt switch (RH) circuit open (for Normal/Close terminal) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Right side belt reminder does not behave correctly when the belt is unfastened
- Belt state in scan data missing or invalid for the right seat
- Fault appears or disappears as the seat is slid or reclined
- Belt pretensioner logic for the right seat disabled
Likely causes
- Under-seat connector unplugged or partly seated after seat removal or cleaning
- Broken conductor in the harness where it bends every time the seat is adjusted
- Corroded or spread terminal in the switch connector giving high resistance
- Contacts inside the buckle worn or dirty, so the resting contact no longer closes
- Buckle pigtail damaged at the point where it leaves the buckle body
- Open in the harness between the seat connector and the airbag control module
- Right hand belt assembly replaced with a unit that does not have the same switch arrangement
How to fix it
- Latch and release the right belt while watching live data to see which state is never reported
- Unplug and reseat the under-seat connector, then inspect the terminals for corrosion and spreading
- With the buckle disconnected, measure switch resistance in both positions and compare with specification
- Check continuity of the switch wire from the buckle connector through to the module connector
- Flex the harness through the full seat travel while watching for an intermittent break
- Repair the open section with correct crimped terminals and secure it clear of the seat rails
- Replace the right buckle assembly if the contact is proven open inside the switch, then clear and retest
