Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

What does it mean?

B1535 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat belt switch (RH) circuit (ground side) shorted (for Normal/Open terminal) .

Symptoms

  • Airbag warning lamp on
  • Right belt reminder shows the belt as fastened even when it is released, so no chime is heard
  • Belt state in scan data does not follow the buckle at all
  • Code returns immediately after clearing
  • Right side pretensioner logic disabled

Likely causes

  • Latch contact wire chafed onto the seat frame or a rail bracket
  • Drink spilled into the buckle leaving a conductive path from the contact to the housing
  • Loom pinched under the seat mount or crushed when the seat was refitted
  • Terminal backed out of the under-seat connector and touching bare metal
  • Corrosion in the connector from a wet carpet or a persistent body leak
  • Internal short inside the buckle assembly

How to fix it

  1. Operate the buckle several times while watching live data to prove the state is stuck
  2. Unplug the buckle and measure the harness side to ground with the connector separated
  3. Inspect the buckle mouth and body for spilled liquid and sticky residue around the contacts
  4. Trace the loom along the seat pan and rails for abrasion, crushing and cable ties cutting into the insulation
  5. Check the connector for corrosion and for a terminal resting against metal
  6. Repair the shorted section with proper terminals and secure the loom clear of the frame
  7. Replace the right buckle assembly if the short is internal, then clear the code and confirm the state now changes
