What does it mean?
B1539 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Seat Belt Switch (RH) Circuit (Power Supply Side) Shorted (For Common Terminal) .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on
- Right belt reminder frozen, either chiming constantly or never at all
- Belt state in scan data unresponsive to the buckle
- Several right belt switch codes stored together because both contacts use this leg
- Sometimes a blown seat fuse or a seat function that has stopped working
Likely causes
- Common wire chafed against a live seat circuit such as a heater element feed or a seat motor supply
- Aftermarket accessory spliced into the right seat loom and feeding voltage into the return leg
- Terminal backed out of the under-seat connector and touching a supply pin
- Water and corrosion inside the connector bridging a powered pin to the common leg
- Insulation damaged where the loom crosses the seat frame after seat removal
- Internal short in the buckle between the shared return and a powered contact
How to fix it
- Note whether a group of right belt switch codes is present, which points to the shared common leg
- Unplug the buckle and check the common wire for battery voltage with the ignition on
- Inspect the right seat loom for aftermarket splices and disconnect any add-on wiring for a retest
- Check the under-seat connector for moisture, corrosion and terminals contacting live pins
- Follow the loom for melted or abraded insulation where it crosses powered leads
- Repair the damaged wiring with proper terminals and reroute it clear of supply circuits
- Replace the right buckle assembly if the short is internal, then clear the code and confirm the belt state responds normally
