What does it mean?
B1732 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Anchor Pretensioner front-Driver resistance circuit short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on continuously
- The driver anchor pretensioner is disabled and will not tighten the belt in a crash
- Code is current and returns immediately after clearing
- Fault very often appears just after seat removal, seat cleaning or floor mat washing
- Warning lamp may flicker while the seat is being slid forward and back
Likely causes
- Squib wire crushed or cut by the seat rail as the seat travels back and forth
- Loom chafed against the seat frame, a mounting bolt or a floor bracket
- Corroded under-seat connector after a wet carpet, a spill or a leaking door seal
- Connector not relatched or a pin pushed back after seat removal or cleaning
- Pretensioner with an internal short between its element and metal housing
- Wiring pinched when the seat was refitted, trapping the loom under the seat mount
- Restraint control module output shorted internally
How to fix it
- Read and record all restraint codes and note whether the fault is current
- Ignition off, battery disconnected, wait the manufacturer's stand-down time before unplugging anything
- Inspect the yellow connector under the driver seat for corrosion, water marks and a fully engaged lock
- Unplug the pretensioner, fit an approved load tool and see whether the fault clears
- With the module connector released, measure both circuit wires to ground; a low resistance proves the short
- Slide the seat through its whole range while watching for the loom to be pinched by the rail, and check under the carpet for damp
- Repair the harness with SRS repair leads and reroute it clear of the rail; replace the pretensioner only if the short is inside it
