What does it mean?
B1733 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Anchor Pretensioner front-Driver resistance circuit short to Battery .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp lit and the driver anchor pretensioner deactivated
- Belt will not be tensioned by the pyrotechnic unit in a collision
- Fault stays current and reappears at once after clearing
- Commonly follows a seat swap, seat heater installation or under-seat accessory fitting
- Other SRS circuits routed through the same under-seat connector may fault as well
Likely causes
- Squib wire chafed against a powered wire in the under-seat loom, such as a seat heater or memory motor feed
- Aftermarket wiring for a seat heater, subwoofer or charger tapped into the seat harness and shorted into the SRS pair
- Corrosion in the under-seat connector bridging a squib pin to a live pin
- Terminal pushed back after a repair and touching the neighbouring contact
- Pretensioner unit with an internally shorted element
- Loom damaged during seat removal and refitting, resting against a live stud
- Restraint control module driver stage failure
How to fix it
- Record all SRS codes and their current or stored status
- Disconnect the battery and observe the specified stand-down time
- Unplug the pretensioner, fit an approved load tool and see whether the code changes state
- With the module connector released, check both squib wires for voltage and for continuity to a live circuit
- Inspect the under-seat loom for rub-through and for any non-factory wiring lying against it
- Remove or reroute aftermarket wiring, then repair the SRS harness with proper repair leads
- Replace the pretensioner if the short is internal; the control module is the last item to change
