What does it mean?
B1736 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Anchor Pretensioner front-Passenger resistance circuit short to Ground .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp lit whenever the ignition is on
- Passenger anchor pretensioner disabled, so the belt will not be pulled tight in a crash
- Code is current and comes straight back after clearing
- Often set right after passenger seat removal, carpet cleaning or floor mat washing
- Lamp can flicker as the passenger seat is slid forward and back
Likely causes
- Loom crushed or sliced by the passenger seat rail during normal seat travel
- Wire chafed against the seat frame, a floor bracket or the seat mounting bolt
- Corrosion in the under-seat connector after water, a spill or a leaking door or windscreen seal
- Connector left unlatched or a terminal pushed back after seat removal or valeting
- Pretensioner with an internal short between the squib element and its housing
- Harness trapped under the seat foot when the seat was refitted
- Restraint control module output shorted internally
How to fix it
- Read and record all restraint codes and their status
- Turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait the specified stand-down time
- Inspect the yellow connector under the passenger seat for corrosion, moisture and a proper latch
- Unplug the pretensioner, fit an approved load tool and check whether the fault clears
- With the module connector released, measure both wires to ground to prove the short
- Move the seat through its full travel looking for the loom being pinched by the rail; check the carpet for damp
- Repair the harness with SRS repair leads and secure it clear of moving parts; replace the pretensioner if the short is internal
