What does it mean?
B1737 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Anchor Pretensioner front-Passenger resistance circuit short to Battery .
Symptoms
- Airbag warning lamp on and the passenger anchor pretensioner switched off
- Belt tensioning for that seat will not happen in a collision
- Fault remains current and returns immediately after clearing
- Frequently follows seat replacement, seat heater fitting or under-seat accessory wiring
- Occupant detection or other SRS circuits sharing the connector may fault at the same time
Likely causes
- Squib wire chafed against a live conductor in the passenger under-seat loom
- Aftermarket accessory wiring run under the passenger seat and shorted into the SRS pair
- Corrosion inside the under-seat connector bridging a squib pin to a permanent live pin
- Terminal backed out after a connector repair and touching the adjacent pin
- Pretensioner with an internally shorted element
- Loom damaged and pressed against a live stud when the seat was refitted
- Restraint control module driver stage failure
How to fix it
- Read all restraint codes and note which are current
- Disconnect the battery and wait the manufacturer's stand-down time
- Unplug the pretensioner, install an approved load tool and observe whether the fault persists
- With the module connector released, check both wires for voltage and for continuity to a live circuit
- Inspect the under-seat harness for chafe and look for any non-factory wiring routed against it
- Remove or reroute the offending wiring and repair the SRS harness with proper repair leads
- Replace the pretensioner if the short is inside the unit; change the control module only as a last resort
