What does it mean?
B1882 is a Body (airbags, seat belts, body electronics) fault code. It indicates: Passenger-Side Pre-Tensioner Seat Belt Circuit Short To Power Supply .
Symptoms
- Air bag warning lamp illuminated from key on and never extinguishing
- Passenger belt pretensioner disabled, and often other restraint circuits inhibited
- Fault frequently appears right after seat removal, valeting or an accessory fitment
- A fuse feeding the seat may blow if the two circuits are bridged
- Restraint warning message shown on the instrument display
Likely causes
- Chafed insulation under the passenger seat letting a firing wire touch a powered feed such as a seat heater or motor circuit
- Harness crushed by a seat mounting foot or trapped by a seat rail
- Water or salt in the under seat connector bridging a firing pin to a powered pin
- Aftermarket wiring, heated cushion or audio installation spliced into or routed with the restraint harness
- Cracked connector housing allowing terminals to touch
- Restraint control module driver failure on the passenger pretensioner output
How to fix it
- Complete the air bag safety procedure before disconnecting anything: ignition off, battery disconnected, stand time observed
- Read the codes with freeze frame and ask what work was done on the vehicle recently
- Unplug the pretensioner and check the harness side for voltage with the ignition on; measured voltage proves a short to power
- Trace the harness along the seat frame, rails and under the carpet looking for crushed, melted or bare sections
- Inspect the under seat connector for moisture and corrosion that could bridge adjacent pins, and dry it properly
- Remove any non factory wiring tied to or spliced into the restraint harness and reroute the loom away from powered circuits
- If the short is still present with the harness disconnected at both ends, replace the restraint control module
