First step

Read the lateral G value with the vehicle level and stationary; it should be at or very near zero

What does it mean?

C1282 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: G Sensor (Lateral-G) In SAS Control Module Is Signal Error .

Symptoms

  • Stability and traction lamps on, ESP inhibited
  • Lateral G value in live data stuck, drifting or offset while the vehicle is stationary
  • Unwanted brake intervention or none at all during cornering
  • ABS lamp often lit as well
  • Fault frequently returns after clearing without any road test

Likely causes

  • Internal failure of the lateral G element built into the steering angle sensor control module
  • Calibration lost after a battery disconnection or module replacement
  • Loose module mounting so vibration corrupts the lateral signal
  • Weak module supply or a high-resistance ground
  • Corroded connector or chafed harness at the module
  • Corrupted CAN messages between the module and the stability control unit
  • Water damage or impact damage at the module location

How to fix it

  1. Read the lateral G value with the vehicle level and stationary; it should be at or very near zero
  2. Check that the module is bolted down securely and sits in its original orientation
  3. Inspect the connector and surrounding area for moisture and corrosion
  4. Measure supply voltage and ground quality at the module
  5. Check the CAN circuits for resistance and communication errors
  6. Run the zero point and steering angle calibration in the sequence the manufacturer specifies
  7. Replace and calibrate the module if the internal sensor remains faulty
