What does it mean?
C1283 is a Chassis (ABS, traction control, steering) fault code. It indicates: Yaw Rate & Lateral G Sensor-Signal .
Symptoms
- Stability and traction lamps on with the systems inhibited
- Both yaw rate and lateral acceleration values look wrong or frozen in live data
- Warning usually appears after cornering rather than at start-up
- Intervention comes at the wrong moment, or does not come at all
- Hill descent and all wheel drive support functions unavailable
Likely causes
- Faulty combined yaw rate and lateral acceleration sensor cluster
- Cluster not calibrated after replacement, battery disconnection or suspension work
- Loose or incorrectly oriented cluster mounting so both signals are distorted
- Supply, ground or signal circuit fault at the cluster connector
- Corrupted or missing CAN messages between the cluster and the stability control module
- Water damage at the cluster location under the console or a seat
- Stability control module fault comparing the two signals
How to fix it
- Read both the yaw rate and the lateral acceleration values with the vehicle level and stationary; both should be near zero
- Check the cluster mounting bolts and confirm it is fitted in the correct orientation
- Inspect the connector and the carpet area around it for moisture and corrosion
- Measure supply voltage and ground at the cluster connector
- Check the CAN circuits between the cluster and the stability module
- Road test and watch whether both signals respond correctly to a steady left and right turn
- Replace the sensor cluster and run the zero point calibration when the signals stay implausible
