Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Check the switch state in live data at idle and with the engine off; the state should differ between the two

What does it mean?

P1092 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Oil Pressure Switch Stuck Off . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.

Symptoms

  • Oil pressure warning lamp never illuminates, not even during the bulb check on some vehicles
  • Check engine light on with the stored switch code
  • Loss of genuine low-pressure protection, which is the real risk with this fault
  • Variable valve timing or cylinder deactivation strategies disabled
  • Oil pressure value in live data frozen at one state regardless of engine speed
  • No drivability complaint, which is why the fault is often found only during a scan

Likely causes

  • Internally open switch whose contacts no longer close
  • Broken signal wire between the switch and the module
  • Connector unplugged, badly latched or with a terminal pushed out of the housing
  • Corrosion on the terminals raising resistance until the signal is never recognised
  • Missing or corroded ground at the switch mounting, on designs that ground through the body
  • Blocked oil passage to the switch so no pressure ever reaches the diaphragm
  • Module input fault as the final check

How to fix it

  1. Check the switch state in live data at idle and with the engine off; the state should differ between the two
  2. Unplug the connector and jumper the signal wire to ground briefly — if the live state changes, the wiring and module are good and the switch is faulty
  3. If nothing changes, test continuity of the signal wire from the connector back to the module pin
  4. Inspect the connector for pushed-back terminals, corrosion and a damaged latch
  5. Verify the switch is correctly seated and that its oil feed passage is not blocked with sludge
  6. Fit a mechanical gauge to confirm real pressure is present at the switch location
  7. Replace the switch if it fails to close with pressure applied, then re-test the warning lamp operation
