What does it mean?
P1093 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Oil Pressure Switch Circuit Low . This is a standardised OBD-II code. The technical definition is the same regardless of the make or model of vehicle, although specific causes and symptoms can vary between vehicles.
Symptoms
- Oil pressure warning lamp lit or flickering while the engine runs
- Check engine light on and the code returning quickly after clearing
- Protective strategies such as start-stop or cylinder deactivation switched off
- Possible knocking or ticking noise if the pressure loss is real
- Live data showing the switch closed regardless of engine speed
- Otherwise normal engine performance in electrically caused cases
Likely causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground where the loom runs along the block or under the intake
- Oil or moisture inside the connector creating a leakage path to the switch body
- Switch that has failed with its contacts closed permanently
- Terminal corrosion allowing the signal and ground pins to bridge
- Harness crushed against a bracket or engine mount
- Genuine low oil pressure, which on many designs closes the switch and pulls the line low
- Module pull-up circuit failure as the last item
How to fix it
- Verify actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge first; do not chase wiring until a real low-pressure condition is ruled out
- Unplug the switch and read the live state — if the fault clears with the connector off, the switch or its connector is shorting
- Measure resistance from the signal wire to ground with the switch disconnected; a low reading condemns the harness
- Inspect the connector for oil ingress from a leaking switch seal and clean or replace it
- Trace the harness for crush and chafe points and repair any damaged section properly
- Replace the oil pressure switch if it measures closed with no pressure applied
- Clear the code and confirm the signal changes correctly between engine off and running
