What does it mean?
P1441 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: EVAP Vacuum Switch Circuit High Input .
Symptoms
- MIL on with the EVAP readiness monitor incomplete
- Fuel vapour smell if purge flow has actually stopped
- Rough idle after refuelling in some cases, when purge behaviour is disturbed
- No obvious loss of power or fuel economy
- Switch state in live data never changes while the purge valve is commanded
Likely causes
- Open circuit or broken wire between the vacuum switch and the PCM
- Vacuum switch stuck open or failed internally
- Purge valve not opening, so the switch never sees vacuum
- Cracked, blocked or disconnected vacuum hose to the switch
- Corroded connector at the switch, which is often exposed to road spray
- Blocked canister or restricted purge line preventing vacuum from reaching the switch
- Signal wire shorted to a battery positive circuit
How to fix it
- Watch the vacuum switch state in live data while commanding the purge valve open with a scan tool
- Apply vacuum to the switch with a hand pump and confirm the state changes at the specified level
- Inspect the vacuum hose to the switch for cracks, kinks, collapse and disconnection
- Check the switch connector for corrosion, water and terminal pushback
- Test the signal wire for continuity to the PCM and for battery voltage that would indicate a short to power
- Confirm the purge valve actually opens and flows, since a dead valve produces the same symptom
- Replace the vacuum switch or repair the wiring, then run an EVAP monitor drive cycle to confirm the repair
