Can I keep driving?

Usually drivable, but get it diagnosed without delay.

First step

Command the pump with a scan tool and check whether it runs at all

What does it mean?

P1447 is a Powertrain (engine, transmission, fuel system) fault code. It indicates: Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit Malfunction .

Symptoms

  • MIL on with the EVAP monitor stuck incomplete
  • No pump sound after the engine is switched off, when the leak test would normally run
  • Other EVAP codes appearing alongside, sometimes contradicting each other
  • Fuel vapour smell only if a real leak also exists
  • Drivability and fuel economy unchanged

Likely causes

  • Broken, chafed or shorted control wire between the PCM and the pump
  • Corroded or water filled connector at the pump, typically near the charcoal canister
  • Internally failed pump motor drawing no current or excessive current
  • Blown fuse in the pump supply circuit
  • High resistance or open ground connection for the pump
  • Rodent damage to the wiring under the vehicle
  • PCM driver fault, considered only when the wiring and pump both test good

How to fix it

  1. Command the pump with a scan tool and check whether it runs at all
  2. Inspect the pump connector and harness for corrosion, water, rodent damage and road impact damage
  3. Verify supply voltage and a clean ground at the pump connector with the key on
  4. Measure the pump motor resistance; an open or very low reading indicates a failed motor
  5. Test the control wire for continuity to the PCM and for shorts to ground and to power
  6. Apply battery voltage briefly to the pump on the bench, using a fused lead, to confirm whether the motor runs
  7. Replace the pump or repair the harness fault, then clear the codes and complete an EVAP monitor drive cycle
